I know that limits can be used for all sorts of things such as construction, engineering and things like that, but when I think of limits I try to think of them in more simple terms. If you have a cup and you fill it with water, it can only become so full before it starts to run over. You can use limits to figure out the capacity the water approaches before it runs over.
Well they can be used in the process of finding the slope of a curve. For example if you were an engineer and you had to find the curve for the roller coaster, you would have to include limits to figure out the slope of the curve.
When I think of limits I think about how far you can approach something but never reach it completely. Or I think of them kind of like asymptotes where the value is restricted.
A real life example of using limits would be earth's capacity to maintain a population of any species. You are approaching something, but may never reach it.

ReplyDeleteThe best example I can think of is making something super cold, it will never reach zero degrees kelvin.
